What you'll cover

The CISRS Operative Training Scheme (COTS) is a one-day course designed for individuals who work with or around scaffolding operations. It provides the essential health and safety knowledge, scaffold terminology, and industry awareness required to work safely on site. The course is suitable for new entrants to the scaffolding industry as well as labourers and operatives supporting scaffolding activities.

This course is suitable for scaffold labourers, operatives supporting scaffolding activities, drivers involved in scaffold operations, apprentices and new entrants to the scaffolding industry, and individuals applying for a CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Card.

Learners will cover

  • Health & Safety Awareness — health and safety responsibilities, hazard identification, accident prevention, safe working practices
  • Scaffolding Fundamentals — basic scaffolding terminology, scaffold components and applications, industry best practice
  • Site Safety — site transport safety, loading and unloading procedures, manual handling techniques
  • Equipment Awareness — servicing and handling scaffold equipment, tubes, fittings and boards, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Working Safely — working around access equipment, reporting hazards and safety concerns, understanding site rules and procedures

Classroom-based course delivered over 1 day.

Outcome

Successful delegates receive a CISRS Operative Training Scheme (COTS) Certificate. Completion of the course can support applications for a CISRS Scaffolding Labourer Card, subject to meeting all CISRS requirements. COTS card valid for 5 years.
