What you'll cover

The High Risk Confined Space course equips delegates with the advanced knowledge and practical skills required to work safely in high risk confined space environments, including the use of breathing apparatus and rescue equipment.

Delegates complete practical and/or written assessments to demonstrate competence in high risk confined space working, covering everything from pre-use breathing apparatus inspections to full rescue drills and casualty recovery.

Learners will cover

  • Confined Space Legislation — Confined Spaces Regulations, employer and employee responsibilities, safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment — toxic gases and fumes, oxygen deficiency and enrichment, fire and explosion hazards, flooding, engulfment and entrapment risks, risk assessments and control measures
  • Breathing Apparatus — use of breathing apparatus (BA), pre-use inspections and testing, correct fitting and operation, breathing apparatus control procedures
  • Access, Egress & Safe Working — safe entry and exit procedures, communication systems, gas monitoring and air quality testing, team roles and responsibilities
  • Equipment Use — gas detection equipment, harnesses and rescue equipment, tripods, winches and retrieval systems, inspection and maintenance requirements
  • Emergency & Rescue Procedures — emergency response planning, casualty recovery techniques, rescue drills, self-rescue procedures, working with emergency services

How it's delivered

Classroom and practical training with breathing apparatus, rescue drills and written/practical assessment.

Outcome

Delegates complete practical and/or written assessments to demonstrate competence in high risk confined space working. Successful candidates receive a High Risk Confined Space Certificate, valid for 3 years.
