What you'll cover

The Medium Risk Confined Space course prepares delegates to work safely in medium risk confined space environments. It covers the relevant legislation, hazard identification, safe systems of work, and the practical use of equipment including escape breathing apparatus.

Delegates are assessed through written testing and practical observation of skills, ensuring they can enter, work in, and exit medium risk confined spaces safely while maintaining communications and monitoring work activities.

Learners will cover

  • Confined Space Legislation — relevant health and safety legislation, Confined Spaces Regulations, roles and responsibilities
  • Hazard Identification — oxygen deficiency, toxic gases and fumes, fire and explosion risks, entrapment and restricted access hazards
  • Safe Systems of Work — permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, method statements, pre-entry checks and procedures
  • Equipment Use — gas detection equipment, escape breathing apparatus, harnesses and retrieval systems, communication equipment
  • Entry and Exit Procedures — safe access and egress, maintaining communications, monitoring work activities
  • Emergency Procedures — emergency planning, self-rescue techniques, evacuation procedures, initiating and controlling emergency response arrangements
